Off-Grid Ready — 2017 Citroën Relay L3H2
The Build
Made for the long way round
This 2017 Citroën Relay L3H2 was converted by Oakline Campers into a practical, comfortable 3-berth camper designed for both weekends away and longer off-grid trips.
Built on the 2.0 BlueHDi 130 Euro 6 platform with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the van had around 70,000 miles and started life as an ex-MOD vehicle with three belted cab seats.
The interior was finished in sage green with natural timber cladding, solid oak worktops and handmade furniture throughout. At the rear, a fixed double bed sits above a large garage area, while the main bench converts into an additional single berth to create a flexible 3-berth layout. A removable oak table provides a comfortable dining and workspace area, with storage incorporated throughout the build.
The kitchen includes a two-burner gas hob, sink with running water, 12V fridge, solid oak worktop and tiled splashback, creating a compact but practical cooking space.
For off-grid use, the van was equipped with a 300Ah Renogy lithium battery, 400W of solar, DC-DC and MPPT charging, 20A mains charging, a 2000W pure sine wave inverter, battery monitoring, 230V sockets and USB charging points.
Additional features include a diesel heater, MaxxAir roof fan, LED lighting and carbon monoxide alarm, making the van suitable for comfortable year-round use.
Every element of the conversion was carefully planned and hand-built, combining a warm, natural interior with a practical layout and a strong off-grid electrical system.
