Coastal Weekender — 2016 Ford Transit Custom L2H1.
The Build
A closer look
This 2016 Ford Transit Custom L2H1 was converted by Oakline Campers into a compact 2-berth camper designed to be practical, comfortable and easy to use for weekends away and longer road trips.
Built on the 2.2 TDCi platform with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the van had around 65,500 miles and provided a reliable base for the conversion.
The interior was finished with warm oak tones throughout, including a solid oak worktop and table, oak-effect flooring and timber detailing. The van was fully carpet lined for a clean, comfortable finish, with additional insulation and sound deadening installed throughout.
Sleeping accommodation is provided by an M1 crash-tested Rock & Roll bed, which converts from travelling seats into a spacious double berth. Storage was incorporated beneath the bed and front seating, with additional overhead storage helping make the most of the compact L2H1 layout.
The kitchen features an SMEV sink and two-burner hob combination, running water with fresh and waste tanks, and a 12V fridge, all built into a practical oak-finished kitchen unit.
For off-grid use, the van was equipped with a 100Ah Renogy lithium battery, 175W roof-mounted solar panel, 50A DC-DC charger with MPPT, 1000W inverter and mains charging. The system also included 240V sockets, USB charging, battery monitoring and individually switched lighting and appliances.
Sound deadening and insulation included Dodo Mat, thermal liner, Evo Wool and DeadMat Duo beneath the flooring, helping create a quieter and more comfortable interior.
The finished conversion combined a compact layout with practical storage, a full kitchen, reliable off-grid power and a warm oak-led interior designed for simple, comfortable travel.
